The central distinction

Travel coverage and treatment coverage are different questions.

A policy may cover lost baggage or an unrelated emergency during the trip while excluding the retreat’s elective procedure, an existing condition or cancellation caused by changing your mind.

Coverage layers

Ask about four separate events

Cancellation

Which listed reasons trigger reimbursement, and are deposits included?

Emergency

Would an unrelated illness or injury be covered at this destination?

Retreat activity

Are fasting, high-altitude hiking, procedures or other advertised activities excluded?

Evacuation

Who authorizes transport, to which facility, under what limit?

Insurer call script

  2. 02

  3. 03

Common questions

Before you decide

Does normal travel insurance cover a wellness retreat?

It may cover ordinary travel risks while excluding elective treatment, pre-existing conditions, certain activities or cancellation for a reason not listed in the policy.

Is an evacuation limit the same as transport home?

Not necessarily. Policies define where an insured person may be transported and when repatriation applies.

Can a retreat confirm my coverage?

No. Only the insurer or authorized policy representative can interpret the policy; get material answers in writing.
